It seems like every day there’s a new gadget or app released that gives us the opportunity to add something to our day or to make our lives easier. Technology continues to change and advance the way we live and has now moved on to update how we eat.
Kitchen tech has seen major advancements in the past couple of years. Cooking has gotten faster and more streamlined with products such as the Instant Pot, which allows you to safely use pressure cooking to create a meal in 30 minutes and with devices like smart ovens that allow you to preheat remotely from your phone on your way home from work. Not sure if you have all the ingredients you need? No worries, you can now check your fridge on the go as well because smart fridges tell you what you have and order what you need.
Now that you know exactly what’s in your fridge and can cook a perfect meal in 30 minutes or opt to preheat your oven on the way home… what do you cook? Don’t worry, there’s an app for that too. Apps like Epicurious, Supercook, AllRecipes and CookBrite take the ingredients you already have in your house and provide you with recipes. Not only do you save money from reducing food waste, you can try a new recipe or cooking technique.
It sometimes feels like we are living in the future, and there are even more products and innovations on the way. The next big thing may be virtual reality cooking. The digital media company Starship has created a new technology called CyberCook that allows people to create and learn recipes using a virtual reality headset. Soon we’ll have a whole new way to learn and to teach others how to cook.
